We recommend using Mehron Barrier Spray to create a sweat-proof barrier that will allow your makeup to last longer. Next, use your favorite method and products to block your eyebrows. Step 2: Map Out the Zombie Wounds Onto Your Face for Your Zombie Makeup Look Take a makeup pencil and draw an outline of the wounds you want to create. Get creative and place them wherever you want! Shanice prefers to use a brown pencil instead of a black pencil because she finds it easier to paint without worrying about the black makeup mixing in with the paint she uses to fill inside. Step 3: Use Mehron Extra Flesh Wax with Fixitive A to Create Zombie Wounds Using the rounded dull end, layer the wax inside onto the wounds you drew in step 2. To give a 3d effect to your wounds, layer extra wax and create ridges that curve inward toward the center of each wound to represent dead and decaying flesh that has been ripped open, just like in a real wound! If you want to make the texture of the wax a little smoother, lightly tap with your finger. Once you’re happy with the wounds, seal the wax by brushing on a thin layer of Fixative A. This will remove any tackiness and will allow you to paint the wax with ease. Step 4: Paint the Zombie Skin with Mehron Bruise Wheel Mix the green tone with your favorite foundation to create the perfect shade of zombie skin for your ultimate zombie makeup look. Apply it to your skin with a foundation brush. Be sure to save some of this shade so you may use it in step 5. Next, mix the blue-violet with your foundation mixture and use the same brush to paint in the eye sockets to make them appear sunken into your face. Continue to use this shade to contour your face paying extra close attention to the cheekbones and other stronger contours. Set the face with Mehron ColorSet Powder and a powder puff. Step 5: Paint the Zombie Wounds with Mehron Bruise Wheel Mix various shades of red and red violet from the bruise wheel and apply with a variety of smaller brushes to give you depth and detail. Concentrate the darkest shades toward the outer edges of each wound along the ridges you created in step 3. Taking a fine detail brush, mix a redding shade and paint fine squiggly and branching lines that radiate outward from each wound to represent veins. Then, take a sponge and lightly tap into the green foundation shade you mixed in the previous step. Wipe off any excess, and lightly pound the sponge on top of the veins to make them appear a little softer and as if they’re just below wthe skin’s surface.   PRO Tip: Create any any bruise effects you’d like during this step using the green foundation shade mixed with violet or red, and blend into the skin well for a more realistic effect. Step 6: Add Mehron Coagualated Blood and Blood Splatter to Add Texture and Shine to Your Zombie Makeup Look Mehron Coagulated Blood is a shiny, thick, and syrupy SFX blood that instantly elevates any special effect! Using the rounded end of your spatula or a q-tip, add the coagulated blood inside the wounds where you want them to look like fresher healing wounds. Next, take Mehron Blood Splatter and spritz onto your face to represent where blood may have misted out of your Zombie wounds during a gnarly fight! This blood will dry down once applied. The closer you hold the spray bottle to your face, the more concentrated the blood splatter will look. Add a wig or style your hair and add any extra accessories you’d like, and voila! When it comes to SFX makeup, nothing is more rewarding than creating your own prosthetics, wounds, or scars. Mehron 3D Gel is the perfect product to use to make all three, but using this product takes a little practice. That's why we are sharing some of our top tips in this blog! Warming With the Microwave Method In order to use the product, you will need to warm it slightly to achieve a liquid consistency. However, it's important to warm it gently and to test the temperature before you apply it to the skin to ensure you do not burn yourself or your client. Take the cap off, and microwave the gel in five to 10-second increments. Each time, remove it from the microwave and tilt the bottle to see how liquified the gel is. If it's still too solid, remove the cap and warm for another 5-10 seconds. Keep repeating this process until it flows freely inside the bottle, you're ready. Pour the gel into a shallow container to allow it to cool slightly before application. Use a steel spatula to mix the product to remove any air bubbles, and once the liquid has thickened up slightly, you may begin to test the temperature of it on the back of your hand. Apply a very small amount while testing. PRO Tip: Do not overheat. Doing so can cause the formula to break and become unusable. The consistency of the gel will be a similar to honey when it is ready to be applied. Warming With the Boiling Water Method Many artists prefer the boiling water method because it's much less likely that you'll overheat the gel. First, heat some water until it begins to boil. Fill a cup with the boiling water, and place the capped bottle into it until the gel melts. This takes on average between three to five minutes. Once you see it has melted, take the bottle out of the water and tilt it to view the consistency. Once it is a true liquid, pour it into a shallow dish and allow it to cool until it reaches a comfortable temperature. PRO Tip: You may color the gel with Mehron’s Liquid Makeup or Fantasy F/X makeup while it is liquefied Setting the Gelatin The gelatin will remain slightly tacky once it is applied, so set it with Colorset Powder to knock back the shine and to prep it for painting. This step will also help it stay in place for longer wear.   Removing the Gelatin Removal is quick and easy with Mehron 3D Gel! Gently peel away, and always wash with soap and water when you're done. To achieve this bright white base, apply Mehron Skin Prep Pro to your face and neck. This will help the makeup stay in place. Next, follow up with a small amount of Mehron Celebre Pro Cream Foundation in Black to darken the contour and blend out with a sponge.   PRO Tip: If you apply too much black cream, use a clean sponge and clown white to soften the area. To hollow out the face to give an undead effect, apply a grey eyeshadow beneath your contour to create shadows. Next, apply a black eyeshadow to the jawline with a brush. Step 5: Define the Eyes Line your eyes using a black eyeliner, and use a skipping technique to create short lines on the outer lid to elongate your eyes. Apply eyeliner to the lower lash line, and create a smokey effect using a black eyeshadow. Step 6: Define the Lips and Nose Use a black eyeshadow to the contour your lips. Next, add a little bit of the same shadow to the tip of your nose to create a shadowy effect. Take the black kohl pencil and apply to the innermost part of your lips and blend it outward. Step 7: Add Details To bring a little life and color back to the face, take a small amount of Mehron CreamBlend Stick in the shade Soft Peach, and apply it to the high points of your cheeks, forehead, and chin. Next, add texture around your eyes and lips. Dip a stipple sponge into Mehron's Celebre Pro Cream Foundation in Black and press the sponge in light dabbing motions against the skin. Step 7: Give the Body Dimension Add a bit of depth and dimension by creating shadows along the chest and neck with a small, flat brush and a black eyeshadow. Take the stipple sponge and black cream foundation to apply texture to the hollowed out areas. Step 8: Finishing Rouches Apply Mehron Hair White to the hairline with a brush and blend the color through your hair with your fingers. PRO Tip: If it's easier, use a makeup pencil to outline the basic shapes before painting them on. Step 2: Fill In Sections Use slightly larger brushes like Mehron Paradise AQ Brushes Bold Round and Prisma Medium 3/4 with the Mehron Aqua Paradise Paints to fill in the outlined areas. Larger brush strokes can be used for this step. Step 3: All About the Details Use a small liner brush with the paint to create "fur" by using short, quick strokes. A fan brush can also be used to create fur-like strokes. Using different tools and painting the fur strokes in opposite directions will allow you to create a more realistic effect. PRO Tip: The harder you press the brush against your face, the thicker each line of fur will be. It may be time consuming, but using light strokes will help you create a look that is more realistic! Step 4: Add Dimension & Highlight To help give the look depth, layer a light, medium, and dark shade of paint. This will help mimic the look for real fur. The Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ Prisma BlendSet in Furry is a great product to use when creating dimension because it contains multiple shades all in one convenient palette. It also has white and black paint that can used to deepen or brighten the other colors.   Take a lighter shade, like white, with a liner brush and add highlights around the eyes, nose, and other parts of the face. While the paint is still wet, dab the area with your finger to blend any harsh edges. Step 5: Paint the Body Using the Mehron Paradise AQ Brush Prisma Medium 3/4 brush, begin painting your neck and shoulders. Once the paint has dried, use the same technique used on the face to begin creating fur and highlights on the body. Step 5: Add Props Perfect your look by adding props like ears or a collar. This unique formula is a runny liquid and can be used on the face, body, and even in the mouth (it has a zesty mint flavor!). Keep in mind this blood does not dry down and stay wet and runny after it is applied. It is the perfect choice for special effects including fresh wounds. Ben Nye Thick Blood Ben Nye Thick Blood is a slightly darker shade of red and is used to resemble blood that is beginning to clot. This long-lasting formula has a thick and chunky gel-like consistency and will not have a runny consistency. However, this blood can be smoothed out for a less chunky and brighter appearance, if desired.   PRO TIP: Use a small amount of Thick Blood with a metal spatula to create a line on the face or body to resemble a scratch or cut. Ben Nye Fresh Scab Ben Nye Fresh Scab is a dark rusty red color and is used to create a scab effect. The consistency is a thick gel-like consistency. This blood is ideal for creating a wound that is starting to heal, as this will add texture to the area applied.   Kryolan Eye Blood Kryolan Eye Blood in Red is a Halloween best seller. This blood can be applied directly to the eye using the dropper. Do not use in conjunction with eye contacts (prescription or sfx). The Kryolan Eye Blood has liquid consistency. Upon your first use, this product may feel slight heavy in the eye. Your vision may also be slightly blurry. The special effect of the eye blood is temporary. As you blink the effect will go away. Please note, once you open the bottle, this product has a 30-day shelf life. PRO TIP: Apply the blood to the top part of the eyeball to cover the entire eye and for slightly longer effect. Mouth Blood: PPI Mouth FX in Blood Red & Ben Nye Complete Blood Cap Pack Both PPI Mouth FX in Blood Red and Ben Nye Stage Blood are safe to use in mouth. The PPI Mouth FX in Blood Red has a syrup-like consistency. The nozzle on the bottle will allow for a precise and easy application. By patting the blood around the mouth with your finger will allow you to create speckled effect with the blood. Ben Nye Complete Blood Cap Pack includes a .5 oz of Stage Blood and 12-empty capsules. Fill the capsule with the Stage Blood and close with the top half of the capsule. Once you are ready for the effect, place the capsule in your mouth and bite down. PRO TIP: Place a capsule on each side toward the front of the mouth a more dramatic effect. Using Blood with Prosthetics Kristen used Rubber Wear Wide Cut Foam Latex Prosthetic. Some Halloween looks have stood the test of time and are popular year after year: a witch, a cat, and of course, a colorful clown. This year, we partnered with professional makeup artist Kelly Tull, in association with Lei V Agency, to bring you another fan favorite, a scarecrow. Shop the Look Sold out Sold out Sold out Sold out Sold out The List Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ in Black, $13.95 Melt Cosmetics Four Twenty Eyeshadow Palette, $58 Ben Nye Clown White, $6 Duo Lash Adhesive, $6 Graftobian Stage Blood, $5.50 TOTAL: $89.45 Step 1: Map out the eyes, nose, and mouth Using a makeup pencil, lightly draw the outline of eye sockets (Kelly opts for a large winged out eye socket that extends out and upward toward her hairline), a nose, and the mouth. Next, use the shades Wax, Shatter, Blunt, and Full Melt from the Four Twenty Palette to create a warm-toned gradient along the outside of the outline. The deepest shades should be closest to the outline you created. Blend outward with the lighter shades.   Step 2: Add textured details Using a fan brush, lightly dip into clown white brushing off any excess product. Apply crosshatch lines across your cheekbones and forehead using light brushstrokes. Step 3: Fill in the eyes, nose, and add eyebrows Fill in the eye sockets using a fine detail brush and Black Paradise AQ Makeup. Then, outline the top and lower half of this area with clown white to make them pop. Complete the nose by outlining it with clown white and filling in the socket with the black makeup. Use eyeshadow to blend away any harsh edges. Step 4: Create a creepy mouth Apply additional crosshatches to the jawline and around the mouth using the fan brush and clown white. Next, using your fine detail brush, paint a frightening mouth using the black makeup. Once the black has dried, use eyeshadow to soften and blend the edges. Step 5: Attach twine & move on to the neck Use lash adhesive to apply small pieces of twine to the nose and mouth. This will provide a realistic stitching effect. Once the adhesive is dry, use clown white to outline the mouth, and add crosshatch details to the neck and décolletage. Step 6: Final details Using two pieces of twine, create a criss cross stitched effect across your eyes (have them criss cross for a stitched effect). Be sure the pieces are long enough to project away from your eyes so you can blink and look around comfortably. Using eyeshadow and the black makeup, add details to your neckline. We're continuing our SFX Tutorial Series with another movie character that has become a fan favorite for horror film lovers and SFX artists across the world, La Llorona. Once the entire prosthetic is tacky, apply the RCMA No Color Powder and dust off the excess. This step will make the paint more vibrant. Step 2: It's time to paint Using an alcohol based paint (he used the Skin Illustrator Flesh Tone Palette), mix a shade that matches your skin tone and paint the entire prosthetic. Using darker colors or even a hint of black, add shadows and contour. You can add the appearance of weathered and textured skin using a stipple sponge. Adding red and mixing red with brown or blue can help you create a believable blood tone. The more you layer and build, the more realistic it will look. We recommend the Skin Illustrator FX Palette for this step. It has primary shades that will allow you to mix any skin tone and the perfect shade for bloody details. Once you're happy with the paint job, add more alcohol to the original skin tone shade you mixed and paint a light wash on the entire prosthetic. This will help blend everything together.   Step 3: Apply the prosthetic When applying a full face prosthetic, it's important to have freshly cleansed skin. The natural oils in your skin and moisturizer will prevent the adhesive from being as effective. If you have facial hair, consider shaving or cover it with a product like Mehron SynWax to prevent the adhesive from sticking to it. Use a q-tip to slowly apply ProsAide II The Sequel to the bridge of your nose and just below your eyebrows. You do not want to get any of the adhesive in your eyes. Apply the adhesive to the brow of the appliance, and once it's mostly dry and slightly tacky,   position it onto your face matching up the nose with your nose bridge, and then press down to set it in place. Using a Q-tip and spatula (we recommend the Ben Nye Blending Spatula; it will come in handy later in the tutorial), press down gently around your eyes. Apply a light layer of adhesive if there are areas that are not properly glued down. Move on to the chin and apply a thin layer of adhesive to your skin, press the appliance down to seal. Repeat this process around the entire perimeter. PRO TIP: If you want to add eyeliner, apply it before putting on the prosthetic. Step 4: Blend the edges Working in small sections, use a wedge sponge and apply a small amount of liquid latex along the seam where the prosthetic meets your skin. Use a stipple sponge to blend the edges. Set with a colorless setting powder to eliminate the tackiness left behind by the latex. Step 5: Use makeup to blend everything together Using your favorite foundation, a spatula, and the Ben Nye Professional FX Wheel in Bruise and Abrasions, mix shades to mimic the colors you used to paint the prosthetic, and apply to the rest of your face. Using your favorite eyeshadows or the wheel, add additional details like wrinkles, bruises, and scars that extend past the appliance and onto your skin to further blend the look. Don't forget to fill in the eye socket area with the creme makeup and set with powder eyeshadow. Step 6: Add final details to the look Now is a great time to add any additional materials like fake moss or torn fabric to add texture. Finally, add coagulated blood. The latex prosthetic will be sticky during removal and may tug at any unset hair. Step 2: Prep the prosthetic... gently! Many prosthetics, including the Stage Frights Foam Latex Meatbag Appliance used in this tutorial, have areas around the eyes, lips, and nose that need to be gently "opened" or "torn" in order to fit around your eyes, lips, and face. Gently tear the sealed areas to prevent from damaging it. Tearing creates jagged edges that will be easier to blend and trick the eye into thinking it looks a real scar line versus cutting with scissors which creates clean lines that will be obvious to spot if not blended perfectly. Step 3: Use powder to "outline" where the prosthetic will be placed onto your face Line up the appliance on your face to see where you want to place it. Once you've found the perfect position, take a brush with Ben Nye Neutral Set powder and dust it around the edges to create a guide on where to apply it once you add adhesive. Step 4: Apply the appliance Using Pros-aide Cream and a q-tip, apply a thin layer of adhesive to your face around the inside perimeter of your powdered outline and along the outer edges of the prosthetic while avoiding the thin outermost edges. You can easily add more adhesive to the edges once everything is in place. Additional lumps and bumps that may occur during application will add to the scarred effect and are not a bad thing. PRO TIP: When you are applying a full face prosthetic, start at the bridge of your nose, as it's a good central point to start with, and work your way outward. Step 5: Blend in the edges for a seamless transition Taking a Graftobian Stipple Sponge, dip into a small amount of Pros-Aide The Sequel, and dab the sponge around the edges to create a nice thin layer to help blend the seam into your skin. Repeat the process using thin layers of Mehron Liquid Latex to make the transition even smoother. It's normal to apply three or four thin layers, and be sure to let each layer. Set with Ben Nye Neutral Set powder  because the latex will stick to itself.   Step 6: Add depth and shadows using sponges and brushes Using the Skin Illustrator Zombie Palette, (a good alternative with a better range of flesh tones is the Skin Illustrator Ve's Pirate Palette) an alcohol activated paint, dip into the lightest red shade and apply to the highest points of the prosthetic. Next, use the darker shades to paint the recessed areas to make them look like open wounds. Step 6: Paint the highest points lighter Using the lightest shade from the Skin Illustrator Zombie Palette, paint the highest points of the prosthetic to look like fresh flesh that is still intact. Step 7: Create a black eye Using the Mehron Pro Color Ring in Bruise, paint the skin around the eye to mimic a fresh black eye.   Step 7: Final details! Using a small amount of Mehron Sweat & Tears, paint the wounds to give them a gruesome glossy finish. Using the Graftobian Stipple Sponge  and Skin Illustrator Zombie Palette, add a few shadows and darker bruises to the face and neck. You're Camera Ready! The skull trend is still going strong, and for this tutorial, we partnered with PaigeMarieMakeup for a bit of an untraditional skull. This tutorial is for those that want to dip their toes into the SFX world while still maintaining a glam makeup look. In addition to using makeup, she shows us how to add some stickers, gems, and an elaborate headpiece for an easy glam skulltress look that will turn heads from SFX beginners to makeup lovers alike! Paige Marie used the light purple shade before layering on some of the Blend Bunny Cosmetics Little Miss 'She Never Misses' Palette to add a pearly glow. Step 2: Apply foundation, powder, and contour Does this sound like your normal makeup routine? These first few steps will be very similar to your normal glam routine. For this look, Paige Marie uses her favorite illuminating foundation in two different shades (for foundation and to contour) and RCMA No Color Pressed Powder. Step 3: Add highlighter Keeping with the glam theme, add a beaming highlight. Paige Marie used the lightest shade from the Blend Bunny Cosmetics Little Miss 'She Never Misses' 25 Shade Eyeshadow Palette on the high points of her cheeks, brown bone, and upper lip. Step 4: Brows and lashes For this look, only half of your face will be a skull, so using the NYX Thick It Stick It Brow Gel, fill in one brow, and add lashes. For liner, you can use either a liquid liner, or in this case, a sticker. Step 5: Block out your other brow For this step, Paige Marie used a glue stick to cover her brow with plenty of RCMA No Color Powder. To further disguise this area, she took the Graftobian Corrector/Neutralizer Wheel in Light to create a skin-tone finish and powdered some more. Step 6: Paint on the jaw and face details Using the Mehron Paradise Makeup, paint on the jawline and other details. Feel free to add more or less based on your comfort level and how detailed you want your skull to be. You can use stickers and gems to create more details, too. Step 7: Use a white liner for added details and as a guide for your gem application To help guide where you're going to add more gems, draw lines using the Ben Nye Liquid Eye Liner (Paige Marie uses white) to both add more detailing and to make application a breeze! Step 8: Time for lips Apply your favorite liquid lipstick, and use the Ben Nye Liquid Eye Liner and Blend Bunny Palette to add depth and create "teeth". Adding pear shaped gems is a fun way to add "teeth" to your skull, too. Step 9: Paint your neckline Using the same colors you used for your eyeshadow, cover your neck and décolletage. We're continuing our SFX Tutorial Series with an easy special effects makeup look using just a handful of products. If you have the proper brushes and tools already, you can create this look for under $40! Shop the Look Sold out Sold out Sold out Sold out The List To re-create fancyflutie's look, these are the products you need: Mehron Paradise Cake Makeup AQ Prisma BlendSet in Flash, $14.95 Mehron Paradise Cake Makeup AQ Single Refill (Black), $8.95 Mehron Paradise Cake Makeup AQ Single Refill (White), $8.95 Ben Nye Glitz It, $10 Total Cost: $42.85 The Tutorial Step 1: Paint the teeth, jawline, and basic outline of the skull Using the Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ in White, first paint the teeth. This will help guide the rest of your outline. Next, move on to the jaw outline. Using the same tools, outline the eye sockets and nose. Don't forget to add a white line down the center of the nose to represent the septum. This will make the skull more realistic. Step 2: Time to add a bit of color! Using a sponge and the Mehron Paradise Cake Makeup AQ Prisma BlendSet in Flash, swipe your sponge across several of the shades in the cake and apply to your face in sweeping motions. This will create streaks of color. Customize the look by using more of your favorite shades or even selecting a different palette. Continue this step until you fill in ever area except the eye sockets, nose, and the inner portion of the jaw. These areas will be painted black. Step 3: It's all in the details Using a fine detail brush (the Sigma Chrome E11 Eye Liner Brush works perfectly for this step), outline the teeth and jawline first using Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ in black. Adding thinner lines within each tooth and where the teeth meet the cheek area will give a more realistic look. Leave a small section between the outer jaw and mouth. It will be filled in completely with black in the next step. Step 4: Move on to the nose Using the same detail brush, outline the nose cavity and be sure to leave the thin white strip along the middle. Fill in the nose with black and move on to the eye sockets. Same thing, outline them first. They will be filled in soon. Continue to outline the skull and add a few details above the brows and on the cheek bones for depth and dimension. Step 5: All about the eyes Fill in the eye sockets with black. Once it has dried, take a fine detail brush and add a few colorful details (fancyflutie used blue from the palette) along the outer rim of the eye socket. These additional steps make a big impact! Step 6: Add more details around the skull Once you're happy with the eyes, clean your brush and use white to add small details above the teeth to represent the roots of each tooth, and add a few fine details above the brow bone and on the cheeks near where you added the black fine details before. This will help make those details pop. Step 6: Add a second layer of black A nice, rich, deep black eye socket and in between the teeth and jaw bone will help create depth. You're almost done! Step 7: Everything's better with a little glitter Apply Ben Nye's Glitz It onto any area that has white. and also on to the eyelids. Allow to dry, and that's it! You're Camera Ready! In our seventh and final release of the series, PRO artist Samantha Jaymes creates a Glam Gore Halloween Queen makeup look featuring a collection of Ben Nye products from Camera Ready Cosmetics. Follow along as Samantha walks you through each step of creating this look! Opt for smaller palette options or individual shades, and use a black gel or cake eyeliner that you already have on hand: RCMA Makeup 4-Color Foundation Palette – $27 Make-Up Atelier 5 Color Eyeshadow Palette in T20 Smoke Variation – $36 Ben Nye Stage Blood, 1oz – $3.50 Total Cost: $66.50 Step 1: Highlight your brows. Using the lightest shade from the Ben Nye Matte HD Foundation Palette, highlight above and below your brow and blend out. Step 2: Create a dark lid and smokey eye. Using the darkest shade from the Ben Nye Matte HD Foundation Palette, create a dark eyelid base and smudge out with a shadow blending brush. Next, dip into the eyeshadow palette and create a deep, chocolate brown smokey eye. Use the excess shadow from your brush to extend the smokey effect across the lower lash line.  Finish your eye look with the Ben Nye Cake Liner and a thin liner brush. Create a thin line along the upper lash line, extending out beyond the corners of each eye. For an even more dramatic effect, draw a thick triangular outline from each corner of the eye and fill in with the black liner.  Apply long, voluminous false lashes for extra glam. Step 3: Contour and shape your face. Using a bronze shade from the Ben Nye 8-Color Essential Eye Shadow Palette, or any other eye palette with bronzy and gold shades, start creating depth around the face. Contour below the cheekbones, around the temples, across the forehead and along the jawline and neck.  Step 4: Create "stitched-up" details lines across the face. Using a light foundation shade, trace the outline of your face stitches. Samantha starts in the top middle of her forehead, traces down the bridge of her nose, and starts from the middle bridge of her nose across the tops of her cheeks and down to the her jawline and neck. Once you've finished the outline, dip into a slightly darker foundation shade to trace an outline around your faintly traced lines. Dip back into the Ben Nye Cake Liner or another black eyeliner you have on hand, and create thin lines down the middle of your traced lines. Then create "stitches" across all of the lines, as well as on the ends of your brow. Step 5: Create a glossy nude lip. Using a nude lipliner, trace the outline of your lips. Fill in with a matte lipstick in a similar nude shade, and top with a nude or clear lip gloss for a bold, glam lip look. Step 6: Create the look of dripping blood from some of your stitches. Add a small amount of Ben Nye Stage Blood to the end of a thin makeup brush and apply thin, dripping strokes from various places on the face - from stitches, the top of the forehead, and the corners of your mouth. Angie preps her skin with the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrate and follows up with a full-coverage foundation base. Then she applies water-based the Kryolan Professional Make-Up Hydro Spirit Gum over her eyebrows to hold them down before applying white creme makeup to conceal them. Step 2: Map out and fill in your butterfly makeup design. Using a dark brown artist pencil, outline the shape of butterfly wings on both sides of the face. Create faint lines so you can easily cover up your tracing in the following steps. Fill in your outline with a light blue creme makeup. Step 3: Apply shading to the tops and bottoms of your butterfly face paint wing outline. Using a dark blue creme makeup, apply shading to the tops and bottoms of the makeup butterfly wings. Slowly fade the color in towards the inner parts of the face, almost like an ombre effect. Step 4: Set creme makeup in place with matte eyeshadows. Define shading. Lock the creme makeup in place using matte eyeshadows of the same color for easy butterfly eye makeup. You’ll be using two different shades to cover the different blue colors. As you’re setting the butterfly makeup, accentuate the shading inside the wing design by applying more of the eyeshadow color to the tops and bottoms. Step 5: Outline your butterfly makeup design & set in place. Apply a black creme or gel eyeliner to the outer border of the butterfly face paint design, creating thicker lines towards the top and bottom rounded edges of the wings. Once you’ve outlined the full design, go back over the outline with a matte black eyeshadow to set the lines in place. Step 6: Line your eyes! Using a black liquid eyeliner, line the upper and lower lash lines of your eyes. Create a winged outer corner for a dramatic butterfly makeup effect. Step 7: Create delicate detailing inside the makeup butterfly wings. Dip back into the creme eyeliner from the previous steps and create thin, delicate lines inside the wings. These are the veins of the butterfly wings. There is no right or wrong way to draw these lines but follows Angie’s butterfly face painting tutorial video above to see how she completed this step. Step 8: Outline the butterfly wings again, this time in white. Using a white creme pencil, outline the wings again for more definition. Do not go over the black outline; simply trace the outside edges of the black. Step 9: Apply glitter inside the butterfly wings. Time to get that iridescent, ethereal sparkle! Angie uses Eye Kandy Glitter Sprinkles in shade Marshmallow to create this effect. Apply all over the inside of the butterfly wings. Step 10: Complete the butterfly makeup look with false lashes and a nude lip! Finish your butterfly face painting with voluminous false lashes and a pretty, nude lip. (But make it glam.)   Step 1: Foundation Step 2: Eyes and brows Step 3: Lips Step 4: Cheeks Step 5: Mouth Step 6: Finishing eye touches Step 7: Neck ruffle Step 8: Glow, baby!   Step 1: Set foundation in place. Kelly uses the RCMA No Color Powder to lock her foundation in place. This sets a flawless, full-coverage base for the rest of your clown makeup for Halloween application. Step 2: Create exaggerated brows and detailing around the eyes. Using a fine detail brush, dip into a black gel liner or aqua-paint to fill in your eyebrows. For the inward portion of your brows (facing the nose) extend lines outward and up towards the forehead. Using the same black makeup, create clown-like detailing above the brows and around the eye area. Follow the video above to watch how Kelly accomplishes this, or follow your own style to create your perfect clown makeup look for Halloween! While you're waiting for this clown makeup to dry, continue with steps 3 thru 5. Step 3: Line and fill-in your lips. Choose a dark purple or mauve color to line the full perimeter of your lips. When lining the lips, extend the corners of your mouth slightly outward for a wider, more exaggerated clown makeup lip effect. Find a similar liquid lipstick color in a matte finish to fill in your clown lips since clown makeup often features overdrawn lips. Step 4: Create bright pink clown cheeks. Choose a rosy or light pink powder blush color and apply in a circular motion to the apples of your cheeks. You'll be left with round, cartoonish, clown-like cheeks - which is essential for any great clown makeup look. Go back over the blush with a bright pink aqua-paint to really make your cheeks pop. Step 5: Create a cartoon clown makeup mouth. Dip into a brown face paint to draw a large, cartoonish outline of a mouth around your lips. Start just between the bottom of your nose and upper lip, drawing the line out towards the bottom of your cheeks and down towards your chin. Follow the video above to watch how Kelly completes this portion of her clown makeup look. Once you have your outline, fill-in the lines with a white face paint. Do not paint over your lipstick from the previous step. Step 6: Complete your clown makeup eye design. Now that your eyes have had time to dry, fill in the shapes you created earlier with the same black gel liner and finish off the look by gluing sequins or gems in certain parts of the eye design for a dramatic, glam effect. Go ahead and be creative! No two clown makeup looks are alike, so express yourself with unique shapes! Step 7: Paint a colorful neck ruffle to bring your clown makeup look to life. The iconic clown ruffle is a must to complete this clown makeup look! But no worries, you don't need to go buy one; just paint one! Choosing bright, vibrant cake makeup colors, created thing blocks of color from the top of the neck to the top of your chest, finishing them off in a pointed fashion. Alternate colors as you go until the full neck is filled in. Add white circles to the end of each pointed color line, and then outline everything in black (the circles and the individual color strips). You now have a bright collar that’s an excellent addition to your clown makeup for Halloween without any extra accessories. Step 8: Add some serious glow! Apply a shimmering body illuminator, like NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator, to the shoulders and chest (just below your painted neck ruffle). Also, add it to the forehead and T-zone. Andie uses Danessa Myricks Vision Cream Cover to create a flawless, full coverage base. Your goal is to create the appearance of pore-less skin, which you’ll later bring to life with vibrant color and cat-like detailing. Set foundation in place with RCMA No Color Powder and a CRC Powder Puff. Step 2: Create a bold, colorful smoky eye. Adjust colors to match the personality of whichever CATS character you’re re-creating. For Andie’s Bombalurina eye look, she uses the Ben Nye Studio Color Rainbow Palette. Start with the bright yellow shade. Apply inside the crease of your eye and extend just above the brow bone. Next, apply the light green all over your lid. Step 3: Create a red-to-orange ombre underneath your eyebrows. Take a flat liner brush and dip into a pigmented red cream paint, like the one included in Danessa Myricks’ Waterproof Cream Palette. Create a line underneath your eyebrow, from the inner bottom corner all the way to the outer bottom corner. Re-visit the Ben Nye Rainbow Palette, this time dipping a fluffy eyeshadow brush into the vibrant red color. Apply that on top of the red cream paint and just below, creating a faded appearance – from deep pigmented red to more sheer. Below the red ombre, apply the orange shade from that same Ben Nye palette to fill in the gap between the red and yellow shades on your eye. The final look should be an ombre rainbow – red at top that fades into the bright green on your lids. Step 4: Fill-in brows, creating the appearance of wispy fly-aways as you go. Using the black Danessa cream paint, trace your eyebrows and define the shape. Fill in with the cream paint and draw staggered fly away, whisker-like hairs coming out off the brows. Set with black eyeshadow to lock in place. Step 5: Line your eyes - heavily! Using the same black cream paint, dramatically line the upper lash line, creating a winged cat eye look. The heavier the line, the better. Bomblaurina is all about sass, so add any additional eyeliner details you see fit. The more dramatic, the better! Set your liner with black shadow to lock in place. Step 6: Create lighter white patches around your face. Apply white cream paint to the bottom portion of your face, from the bottom of your nose out to the laugh lines and to the bottom of your chin. Also paint your nose white and bring it up in between the eyebrows and across the middle of your forehead. Apply bronzer around the rest of your face, the parts without white cream paint, to accentuate the lighter sections you’ve created. Step 7: Define your lips. Using the Danessa Myricks cream red paint from your palette, apply a dramatic red lip. Step 8: Create a cat-like nose and mouth. Using a black gel liner, Andie uses the L.A. Girl Glide Gel Liner, fill in the bottom portion of your nose in all black. Draw a line from the bottom of your nose down to the top center of your upper lip. Fully outline the perimeter of your lips. Dip a fluffy shadow brush into a black eyeshadow and lightly buff out the line connecting your nose and lips. Using the L.A. Girl Gel Liner, apply dots above your upper lip on both sides. Extend a smile line from the corners of your mouth outward. Step 9: Add more color to the face. Mix the red and orange eyeshadows from the Ben Nye Rainbow Palette and apply to the cheeks for an added pop of color that ties the look together. Step 10: Create whiskers. This is the most time-consuming part of the whole look. Using a very thin detail dish, dip into the black cream paint again and create thin line strokes along your cheeks. Fill in gaps with white cream paint strokes to add dimension. Once you’ve finished your cheeks, do the same on each corner of the forehead. Finish the look with any last-minute detailing, like lining below the eye, apply false lashes – anything that adds extra drama! Kevin Yagher   The creator of Freddy Krueger’s makeup and the infamous Chucky doll, artist Kevin Yagher has a long-standing special effects career that dates back to the early 1980s. His expertise with prosthetics has led to some of pop culture’s most eerily memorable characters, and his contributions on A Nightmare on Elm Street, Bones, A Series of Unfortunate Events and Mission: Impossible have earned him industry acclaim. Another notable achievement was Yagher’s work on set of The Master of Disguise, featuring Dana Carvey, where he created 15-20 different disguises to transform the actor’s character throughout the film. Bud Westmore Credited on more than 450 movies and television shows, makeup artist Bud Westmore comes from the prominent Hollywood makeup artist family with the same name. Some of his most well-known works include Man of a Thousand Faces, The Andromeda Strain, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Following the death of his famous makeup artist father, George Westmore, Bud became head of the makeup department at Universal Studios in Hollywood where he scored credits for major horror, sci-fi and fantasy films of the late 1940s. His career spanned over the next two decades until the 1970s when he completed his last project on set of MGM’s Soylent Green. Rick Baker Special effects artist Rick Baker, well-known for his work on Men In Black, An American Werewolf in London, The Nutty Professor and The Wolfman, has won seven Oscars over the span of his 40+ year career. Baker has been outspoken about the shifting nature of film and television makeup. Announcing his retirement in 2015, the acclaimed artist said, “The business is crazy right now. I like to do things right, and they wanted cheap and fast.” His statement was in reference to computer effects, which are taking the place of makeup artist jobs and eliminating the artistic nature of the craft.
