I was looking for a cake mascara to replace the Longcils Boncza I had used for several years. (It appears to have been reformulated into something I no longer like. I cannot get a response from the company about it.) Saw this and loved the compact; the Longcils one was rather awkward to use.
The first time I used it, I wet the cake with a few drops of eyeliner sealant, as recommended by other users. It never seemed to thicken up or become creamy as I swirled the brush in it. It went on very wet, clumping my lashes together in the process, and my experience was the same as many others: It never seemed to dry. Ever. So, I tossed it in the back of my makeup drawer and went back to tube mascara.
When I got an e-mail from Camera Ready Cosmetics asking me to review the product, I came here with every intention of giving it low marks. But I thought, let's try it one more time first.
This time, I used less sealant on the cake - two drops - and I dug up one of the "toothbrush" type brushes that I'd saved from my Longcils product instead of using the spoolie brush that came with the La Femme. (Several reviewers said it used to come with the old-fashioned style brush at one time.)
This time it worked up very nicely on the brush and swept onto my lashes just great. I waved a fan at my face for a couple of minutes, then brushed my lashes with my fingers and - no residue came off. YAY!
So, even though I was used to using cake mascara, there was a learning curve as to how much liquid…
