Classic Bridal Makeup by James Molloy
Leave it to James Molloy to create the perfect classic bridal look!
He started with skin prep and applied a moisturizer before going in with Laura Mercier Pure Canvas Hydrating Primer (applied with his 0.20 My Flexi Face Brush) before adding a light application of tinted moisturizer to even out the complexion. To add dimension to the face, he applied Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer and blended it out using My Domed Multi Brush 0.13. To set the face, he used a light layer of Kevyn Aucoin Loose Setting Powder using My Soft Powder Brush 0.27.
To give his model a barely there bridal flush, he applied a hint of Kevyn Aucoin Blush and lightly sculpted her face using Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder. For the eyes, he opted for a soft pinky nude palette using the Kevyn Aucoin The Contour Eyeshadow Palette in Medium Deep concentrating the deepest shades along the lower lash line and the crease to give soft dimension and added the lightest shimmery shades across the lids. He added Ardell Lashes for a soft romantic gaze and a thin coat of mascara to the lower lashes.
He finished the look with a soft nude lip liner and Buxom Full On Plumping Matte Lipstick in Chill Night and lightly applied a powder highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones.
James' PRO Tip: To apply a highly pigmented blush or highlighter, use the MYKITCO My Blush and Polisher Brush 0.24 to easily and evenly diffuse the pigments onto the skin.
Makeup: Alanna Castro, Hair: Emily Winters, Model: Vianka
Showstopping Bride with Alanna and Emily
Alanna Castro and Emily Winters are a dynamic duo combining their artistry in makeup and hair respectively to serve the Dallas, TX, area and beyond. Their style ranges from editorial to every day, and their goal is to make every client feel like the best version of themselves, no matter what they want to express through their beauty.
Alanna started by prepping the skin with several Sonia Roselli products including Water Elixir and Water Oil to seal in plenty of moisture - the key to any good bridal look. For added hydration and to mattify the t-zone, she used Embryolisse Lait Creme Sensitive and Hydra Mat Emulsion. To keep the under-eye area hydrated throughout the day, she added a thin layer of Saint Jane Beauty Bright Repair Eye Cream.
To give her bride the perfect lit from within look, she used Danessa Myricks Beauty Illuminating Veil in Serenity before creating a multidimensional base using numerous shades of Dose of Colors Meet Your Hue Foundation and Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer.
She set the complexion with By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Palette and baked with RCMA No Color Powder before adding depth and dimension with Scott Barnes Sculpt & Contour palette. For the cheeks, she added a pop of color with Ben Nye Creme Blush Wheel and La Femme Powder Blush before highlighting with Danessa Myricks Beauty Enlight Illuminators in Light and Heaven Sent.
Next, she focused on creating a true bridal glam eye look using Viseart Neutral Mattes palette and added brilliant long-lasting sparkle with Danessa Myricks Beauty ColorFix in Twinkle and Lit Cosmetics Liquid Metals in Activated Gold. For the liner, Alanna used PRO MUA fav Inglot AMC Gel Liner in 77 and Make Up For Ever Aqua Resist Liner and popped on dramatic lashes from Lashes in a Box.
To complete the look, she created a soft pink pout with Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencil in Limitless Brown and Universal Earth and filled in the lips with a blend of Danessa Myricks Beauty ColorFix in Nude 3 and Creme Brulee. She topped the lips with a light layer of Saint Jane Beauty Luxury Lip Oil in Cloud, a soft pink.
Finally, she gave her bride's decolletage a radiant glow with Melanie Mills Hollywood Gleam Face & Body Radiance in Disco Gold and set the entire look with Melanie Mills Hollywood Ultra Lite Long Lasting Sealing Spray.
For the Bridal Hair Style
Emily created Vianka's glam waves using a variety of products that helped keep the style in place for an all-day (and night) event! She prepped her tresses with Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield before setting her hair in rollers with R+Co Vicious Strong Hold Flexible Hair Spray.
Once she removed the rollers, she added some va-va-voom and volume with R+Co Balloon Dry Volume Spray. She added a light spritz to the roots and teased before setting the hair with more Vicious hair spray. Once she was happy with the look, she added a light sprtiz of another anti-humidity spray with R+Co Moon Landing Anti-Humidity Spray.
Natural and Minimalist Bride with Danessa Myricks
Danessa Myricks, professional makeup artist, photographer, and entrepreneur, created a bridal look that enhanced her model's natural features and perfected her complexion with beautiful nude shades.
To create her signature radiant complexion, Danessa prepped the model's skin with Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Glow Serum in Main Squeeze. For complexion, she used several shades of Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder to highlight, contour, and even out the complexion. To create even more of a contrast, she used ColorFix Nude in shade 8 as a warmer bronzer/contour and to contour the nose.
To define the eyes, she applied ColorFix Nude shade 7 all over the lid using a MYKITCO brush. She then smudged ColorFix Nude in shade 9 along the lash line, outer V, and across the lower lash line to provide a subtly smokey effect.
For the lips, she used another shade of ColorFix Nude for a long-lasting liner and filled the lips with shade 4 for a natural nude lip. To make the lips look even bigger, she added a small dab of shade 3 to the upper and lower lip and blended well.

Her looks always start with a healthy and glowing complexion paired with seamless blending of long-lasting and waterproof makeup making it ideal for any scenario.
To create her look, Chelsea spent a lot of time focusing on skin prep. She used pro favorite Embryolisse Hydra Cream Light and Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels. For the complexion, she used the versatile and kit friendly Make Up For Ever All in One Face Palette and added a pop of color with Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder Flushed in Golden Hour.
She framed the eyes with a soft feathery brow with Kevyn Aucoin True Feather Marker Brow Duo. For the eyes, she used Dose of Colors Nine Years Later palette, black liner, and lashes. To complete the look, Chelsea used a soft nude lipstick (Make Up For Ever Artist Velvet Nude in 105 Tender Nude).
Chelsea's PRO Tip: "When working on complexion, I love to use a setting spray like Make Up For Ever Mist + Fix in between each step to create a flawless and everlasting makeup."

Chelsie's Top Picks
I've been highly anticipating the Sonia Roselli launch, and one of the first items I picked out was the Water Elixir Skin Prep! I've been using it for a few weeks now and I'm already SO in love with it! It's so lightweight and soothing, calms inflammation quickly, and absorbs into my skin almost instantly. I love that it doubles as a serum AND moisturizer. It adds some much needed hydration and helps to build up my skin barrier (check out our Sonia Roselli Live, if you haven't already!). My skin feels so soft, plump, and dewy after using it, and I've noticed a considerable improvement in my skin texture. It's the perfect product to use before makeup, as it gives my skin a lovely, glowing base! I can't wait to use it on my clients and models!
I absolutely LOVE the Indie Lee CoQ-10 Toner - it's quickly become one of my go-to products! When I'm having an especially dry day (pretty much every day lately), I quickly spritz some of this on to get an instant boost of moisture. I love that it contains hyaluronic acid, my favorite ingredient, to provide continuous hydration, but what really makes this toner stand out is that it also protects and primes your skin with antioxidants and refreshing ingredients (thank you CoQ10 and Chamomile). Plus, it's a super-fine mist so it doesn't interfere with my makeup! Overall, this toner is perfect for keeping your skin hydrated, refreshed and protected throughout the day!
August's Top Picks
I am totally obsessed with Danessa Myricks' Vision Flush! As a no-makeup makeup fanatic, this is the perfect product to add some color onto your face. I'm personally in love with shade Ballet Slippers and use it as blush whenever I can along with a pop on my eyes. It is super soft, creamy, and incredibly pigmented. A few taps covers everything I need.
I also love love love the Dose of Colors Velvet Mousse Lipsticks. They have a range of gorgeous deep colors (my fav is Spicy) that are highly pigmented and a super soft non-drying formula. These are my go to for date night and will last through it all while still being super comfortable on your lips!
Holly's Top Picks
I am slowly transitioning my makeup routine to all cream products and the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush has become my newest obsession! Every shade is so beautiful and flattering. It's so easy to blend and dries down very nicely - I don't even need to set it with a powder blush. I love wearing them when I do a very natural makeup look to keep my face looking fresh and radiant!
My second pick for the month is one I've been wanting to buy for a while and am so glad I caved! I never felt like I needed to invest in a nice makeup light to do my skincare and makeup until I came across the Glamcor RIKI Skinny LED Vanity Mirror. It truly has changed my morning and night routine! It is so nice to sit down in the morning in front of great lighting to do my skincare/makeup while sipping on my morning coffee! Talk about self care! It is also super easy to travel with considering the size. I am IN LOVE with this light.
Calvin's Top Picks
I know a great lipstick formula when I see one, and the new Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Nudes are amazing. Longwear, highly pigmented, a beautiful and line smoothing soft matte finish, super lightweight on the lips, AND a nude for all skin tones? This revolutionary formula is the answer to lip color. Swipe, Swipe, Go!!!
Since skin prep is an essential step of my job as a makeup artist, I had to name the Rituel de Fille Thorn Milk Hydrating Skin Mist as my second top pick (one of my coworkers selected it last month, but it's just that good that it needs to be name a top pick again)! I have extremely dry skin, so I like to test products on myself to see how they'll perform on clients with similar skin types, and knowing how the product performs all day is also the best way to elevate your artistry. Great makeup artists will know how the products will look all day/night long. This makes my feel hydrated, healthy and relaxed. I use it on clients right before all other skin prep just to give that layer of hydration to the skin so that it's not soaking up all the other products.
Liz's Top Picks
Even though I've curated the best skincare routine (thanks to having the best brands to choose from at work!), there are times my skin doesn't like to behave. It has texture and some spots that are prone to being oily while others want to be bone dry. When Sonia Roselli told me about her Water Oil Skin Prep, I was intrigued, but I have to say that it's really one of a kind. It's lightweight and locks in hydration. My skin is left with less texture and feels balanced. Plus, it makes my life on the go easier and helps me look flawless when I wear makeup. Hands down a must-have for my every day essentials.
Apparently, I am on an oil kick right now, and R+Co's Mirror Smoothing Oil has made a huge difference in my hair. I have long, fine, wavy hair with bleached ends and oily roots. I have been trying to find the perfect thing to make my hair dazzle even though it needs a trip to the salon ASAP. I have found some really amazing products, but I ALWAYS have issues with my ends getting dry and frizzy within a day of a fresh wash. I started using R+Co's Mirror Smoothing Oil about a month ago, and it has changed my game. I use it on my ends when my hair is wet, and I also touch up with it when it's dry. Since I started using it, I haven't felt like my ends are dry. If they start to feel like they need a drink, I grab more oil and give it some love. It's lightweight, so it doesn't weigh down my hair at any point and my hair is glossier than ever. I started using it on my daughter's hair and have seen a huge difference in how healthy her hair looks. I don't know if I can ever live without it now.
Morgan's Top Picks
I love products that help me get ready and out the door in minimal time, so Sydney Grace's Cream Shadows have been my go to! They come in a variety of gorgeous shades that suit any look from subtle to bold! It is true that they are smudge proof, but they will easily wash off with a cleanser! Theylast the entire day without creasing or moving. Unlike some other cream shadows, you have some time to work with before it dries to ensure you're happy with the look, and a little goes a long way. Warm Glow is my favorite color. It's definiely a must-try for cream shadow lovers.
My second favorite this month is Grande Cosmetics Lash Serum. Lash serum is an excellent way to repair lash damage caused by mascara, extensions, and false lashes. Grande Cosmetics has the best serum on the market right now. You have to be consistent in order to see the results of thicker and more lashes, but it is well worth it!
Jess's Top Picks
If you’re a naturally wavy/curly girl - I HIGHLY suggest this Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray! I like to do the *bare minimum* when it comes to styling my hair. After a shower, I towel dry, add some leave-in and curl product, then braid my hair when damp overnight. When I wake up, I take the braid out, run my fingers through the waves, and spritz on a generous amount of this spray to maintain the curl and de-frizz! It LOOKS like it took hours to style, but really minimal effort! A win/win in my book.
If you, like me, are a chapstick babe - you should try RMS Beauty's Tinted Daily Lip Balm! It looks and feels luxurious without that sticky and drying feel of lipstick (iykyk). With a hint of color, it’s subtle yet natural looking while FEELING amazing.

Q + A with Esthetician and Makeup Artist Sonia Roselli
When it comes to skincare, it's important to ensure the products you're using are safe and effective for your skin type and your skin's needs. That's where esthetician and makeup artist Sonia Roselli comes in!
We proudly added her line of skin barrier-loving products this year, and in today's blog, she's sharing a bit more about herself, her favorite products, and her advice for makeup artists.
CRC: Can you tell us a bit about who you are and why skincare is so important to you?
SONIA: As a makeup artist for everyday folks for the last 30 years, skin barrier health is #1 when it comes to having healthy skin.
When your skin barrier is healthy, your skin is healthy which means your makeup looks better, and you’re less prone to redness and irritation, and even breakouts. As a young makeup artist, I was always way more into eyeshadows, as skincare was boring to me at the time. However once I became an esthetician and realized how good the skin looked after a facial and how good makeup looked after a facial, I knew then skin prep was way more important than eye shadows! When you can get the complexion right, everything else looks so much better. Trust me, it’s all about skin prep. It’s the foundation before foundation! It’s been my secret sauce for 20 years!
CRC: What products would you recommend for makeup artists?
SONIA: For a makeup artist, Sexapeel, Water Elixir, Water Balm, and Water Oil are perfect for all clients. I even like Japanese Cleansing Oil in my kit for when those clients sit in your chair and “swear” they took off their makeup from the night before (we all know they didn’t do a good job!). This gets the skin nice and clean and ready for makeup without over stripping the skin causing your foundation to look patchy.
CRC: What products would you recommend for male grooming?
SONIA: For male grooming, Sexapeel, Water Elixir, and Water Balm are perfect male grooming products. Water Elixir is great because it’s a moisturizer and serum in one. It is perfect when you only have seconds to get talent ready!
Sonia's PRO Tip: Sexapeel is great for men, but never use it on the naughty bits (this goes for the ladies, too)! That is just common sense.
CRC: What products would you recommend for our community members that aren't makeup artists?
SONIA: For sure, they should try Sexapeel, Water Elixir, and Water Oil!
Water Oil is my favorite. I have been obsessed with facial oils for my entire career, but this oil is so much different. It is so lightweight and makes your skin feel incredible. It's must have for dry, dehydrated skin, and mature skin.
CRC: What advice do you have for makeup artists as we continue into the new year?
SONIA: The best thing I can tell makeup artists for 2023 is this: This year is going to be a year where you really need to elevate your skills and you’re really going to need to get good at complexion and learn color matching of foundations.
You also need to be able to do any skin tone on the planet. If you don’t know, pay a seasoned pro to teach you. Don’t expect it for free. Many pros took years to perfect their craft.Another thing that has served me well is business training. If you don’t know how to run a business, you don’t have a business, you have a hobby. The best thing you can do if you want to make it in this industry is to treat your career like a business and learn as much as you can about skin, foundation, and the art of working with different personalities (shout out to my bridal pros who have this method down)!
CRC: Being a business owner, especially for skincare, can be so rewarding! Will you share your favorite feedback you've received?
SONIA: Oh my, this is so tough! I get so many wonderful emails from customers, it's hard to point to just one!
I think I love it when women over 40 years old email me to tell me they feel “seen”. Ageism is such a real problem in the beauty industry, and those emails truly make me melt!

Skin Barrier 101: PRO Tips from MUA & Esthetician Sonia Roselli
Itchy, dry, and flaky skin is common in the winter or if you live in a dry climate, but sometimes these skin issues can be a sign that your skin barrier is damaged. Determining how you should treat it depends on numerous factors.
We compiled some of the top tips from professional makeup artist and esthetician Sonia Roselli to help you recognize if your skin barrier is damaged, to explain what can cause damage, and how to help heal your skin barrier.
If you'd like to start exploring her pro-approved skincare line, you may view it here!
What is the skin barrier?
Your skin is made up of many layers that help protect your body. Your skin barrier, the stratum corneum (outermost layer), is made up of thick skin cells called corneocytes bound together by lipids. It serves as a line of defense to keep environmental toxins out and helps keep your natural moisture inside your body.
Without the skin barrier, your natural moisture would evaporate and leave your skin vulnerable.
What makes the skin barrier different from other skin layers?
Your skin barrier is made of cholesterol, fatty acids, and ceramides. Over time, these building blocks can become depleted and lead to barrier damage and irritation. Environmental and lifestyle factors can also deplete your skin barrier.
How can you tell if your skin barrier is damaged?
The first step to healing your skin barrier is to figure out if your skin barrier is damaged.
What are some of the symptoms of a damaged skin barrier?
Redness
Irritation
Peeling/Flaking
Tightness
Breakouts
Rash
Rough Texture
Stinging/Burning
A stinging sensation when water touches the skin
Fine Lines, Crepiness
Dryness (Lack of oil)
Dehydration (Lack of water)
Eczema
What can damage the skin barrier
Now that you know how to tell if your skin barrier is damaged, take a look at some of the most common causes of a damaged skin barrier:
Over-exfoliation of any kind
Anything that exfoliates the skin, including at-home manual exfoliation tools
Not using the proper facial cleanser
Dry climates
Quality of water in your area
Alcohol in skincare
Not wearing sunscreen
Fragrance in skincare products
Medications
Genetics
Aging
Not using a good moisturizer
How can I repair my skin barrier if it's damaged?
If you think your skin barrier is damaged, it's always a good idea to work with a dermatologist and esthetician to diagnose and treat your skin, but there are a few things you can do at home to heal your skin, too. Your at-home goal is to re-hydrate your skin.
Ways to hydrate and repair the skin barrier at home:
Use the proper cleanse and moisturizer for your skin type
Take shorter, cooler showers
Take a look at the lifestyle factors that may be contributing to dehydration
The importance of choosing the right cleanser and moisturizer
A common misconception is that the cleanser you use doesn't matter, but Sonia reminds us why that isn't always true."Knowing your skin type and your skin 'lifestyle' (how often you'll wash your face, do you workout or sweat a lot) is key to choosing this 'gentle cleanser'," she says. "Using the wrong cleanser will lead to a broken skin barrier for some, and I am convinced a cleanser is the first step in a great skincare routine. If I am being 1000% honest, I think this is where most skin routines get into a trick bag, and then people wonder why their skin isn’t behaving when they’re using 3000 other skin care products."
The Best Facial Cleanser for Dry Skin Types
If you have dry skin, you may do well with a cream or oil cleanser. You definitely don’t want to use anything foaming or gel since it may be too stripping on your skin. Dry skin already has a heightened level of sensitivity, so watch out for any added fragrance, too.
The Best Facial Cleanser for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin you may like the feel of a gel cleanser. Oily skin tones like the feel of clean skin, but we don’t want that "over-clean" either.
The Best Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin
If you’re sensitive, you may want to choose a cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin any more than it already is because sensitive skin usually has a degree of broken skin barrier. Avoid products with fragrance, and lightly pat the face dry.
As you see, a cleanser is more important than you think!
Using the Proper Moisturizer for Dehydrated Skin
Not using the proper moisturizer can cause dehydrated skin, too. Just like finding a good cleanser, finding the right moisturizer is critical. That's why Sonia created her skincare line to work for all skin types and formulated products that work for every step of your skincare routine. Her best selling Water Balm Skin Prep is a great moisturizer for all skin types and keeps your skin hydrated and supple for hours. The gel creme formula sinks in swiftly, evens out texture, brightens skin tone, and smooths imperfections. For those with dry skin, Water Oil Skin Prep is designed to give your skin the rich hydration it needs. She formulated both Water Balm & Water Oil to work well under makeup and to also be rich and hydrating enough to be used as a part of your nightly routine.
How to combat weather or lifestyle-related dehydration factors
Lifestyle and weather-related factors are among the most common factors that can lead to dehydrated skin, but don't worry! There are some easy steps you can follow to help.
Weather-related Dehydration
Where you live also plays an important role in skin dehydration. Living in dry, cold, or hot climates can cause the water in our skin to evaporate faster.
Sonia's favorite way to add moisture to the skin throughout the day is to incorporate a facial mist into your routine. She recommends adding Water Elixir to an atomizer and to spritz it on the face throughout the day to replenish the skin with ceramides and nourishing moisture.Sonia's PRO Tip: Whatever you do, don’t use tap water to mist on your face. It is full of minerals that may be irritating to your already dry, dehydrated skin.
Lifestyle-related factors that dehydrate the skin
Love a good cocktail or coffee? These tasty beverages can be okay in moderation, but caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate the skin, so if your skin barrier is damaged, consider cutting back! Likewise, certain medications and even long, hot showers can contribute to dehydration.
Thankfully, the solutions for these factors are easy. Drink more water, turn down the temperature on your shower, and consider adding a humidifier to amp up the moisture in the air around you.
In Conclusion
As you have learned, numerous factors can impact your skin barrier's health! Taking the time to find the proper skincare for your skin type and lifestyle, staying hydrated, and recognizing the symptoms of a damaged skin barrier early on, you'll enjoy healthier and happier skin!
If you're working on repairing your skin barrier, be patient, and stay consistent. Rebuilding a healthy barrier can take time, but it's worth the effort and dedication.
About Sonia Roselli and Sonia Roselli Skincare
Sonia is a makeup artist and esthetician with more than 30 years of experience. Although her skin looks great now, it wasn’t always as healthy! In 2006, she had a total hysterectomy and developed skin issues and sensitivity. Her "bad skin" made her feel bad about herself, especially since her job as a makeup artist was to help others feel beautiful. A question she often asked herself was, “How could I promote great skin and great makeup when I, myself, didn't have it anymore?”
That’s when Sonia Roselli skincare was born. When developing her skincare products, she set out to make products that worked for skin prep before makeup but were still gentle for sensitive skin and anyone that sat in her makeup chair. Her products are beloved by makeup artists and skincare enthusiast lovers of all genders, ages, and skin types because they promote healthy skin barriers and can be used for your morning, daytime, and nighttime skincare routine!
